I once visited a public bathhouse in Kabul and saw a child whose vocalizations reminded me of my own son when he was young. I recognized instantly that he was autistic. What broke my heart was not the child, but the impatience and confusion around him. Not out of cruelty—out of ignorance. AFIA was created to change that.
